Choosing the Right Program
Difficulties with reading rarely reflect on one's intelligence. However, whether the difficulties are with the mechanics of decoding or with complexities of comprehension, inevitably problems with reading will have a serious impact on academic performance as well as self-esteem. Most methodologies address these difficulties with compensatory strategies. That is, they teach people to use their strengths to compensate for their weaknesses. The weaknesses remain uncorrected and tutorial support is needed year after year. In fact, most reading and language difficulties need not be chronic disabilities.
The programs used by Miriam Pollack remediate (rather than compensate for) the areas of deficit by using multi-sensory techniques which build new pathways for auditory awareness, greatly enhancing one's ability to connect sound and symbol in a meaningful way, and create new pathways for conceptualization by stimulating visualization and verbalizing capacities. After completing their intensive training, most students emerge at or above grade level in reading competency which is confirmed at the conclusion of their work by post testing.
Miriam Pollack offers a personal, one-on-one relationship to the student incorporating the very powerful and well researched Lindamood-Bell® theories and methodologies enhanced with other techniques. She works closely with families, keeping parents and other professionals abreast of the student's progress sharing methodologies so that the child's learning can be optimally supported. Most of all, she is committed to restoring the joy of learning and self-discovery to each of her students.
